Build

A website made from scratch for your business, so people who find you online can see what you do, trust you and get in touch.

What you get

  • A custom design. Built around your business, your photos and your own words, not a template you have to fill in yourself.
  • The pages you need. Usually Home, About, Services (or Menu) and Contact, plus a page for each main service. We agree on the list before I start.
  • Made for phones first. Most people will find you on their phone, so your site is built to read well and load fast on a small screen.
  • Easy to reach you. Your address or service area, phone number and hours written out clearly, with tap-to-call and a link for directions.
  • Ready for Google. The basics Google needs to read your site, like page titles, descriptions and a sitemap.
  • A “Leave a review” button. Added once you have a Google review link.
  • Tested before you get it. I check how fast it loads and how it works on a phone before I hand it over.
  • A site you own. You get the finished website files, and once the build is paid, the website belongs to you.

How it works

  1. We talk. You tell me about your business, and we agree in writing on what’s included before any work begins.
  2. You say yes. I send you a short agreement and an invoice. Work starts once you’ve agreed and paid by Interac e-Transfer.
  3. You send your details. Your business name as it appears on your sign, your address or service area, phone, hours, services, real photos and your logo.
  4. I build, you review. You see a first version, then get two rounds of changes, both free. Send each round as one written list.
  5. I hand it over. You get the finished website files. Want me to put it online for you? That’s Maintain.

Good to know

  • Build is the web design only. Hosting and a domain name (your web address) aren’t included. Putting your site online is Maintain.
  • Paid in full before work starts, by Interac e-Transfer, with no sales tax added at the moment. If you change your mind before I start, you get a full refund. Once work has started there’s no refund, and you keep the work done so far.
  • New pages, new features and changes after your two free rounds are quoted in writing first, and nothing starts until you say yes.
  • Want more people to find you on Google? Add Traction Setup. It works on a website I build, just as it does on one you already have.

Maintain

For websites I build: I put your site online at your own web address and keep it running, so it just works and you never have to touch a line of code.

What you get

  • Your own web address, in your name. I register your domain (like yourbusiness.ca) in your name and manage it for you, and the yearly renewal is included.
  • Put online for you. I host your website and publish it at your web address.
  • Fixes when something breaks. If part of your site stops working, I fix it.
  • Kept up to date and secure. I keep everything behind your site current.
  • Kept online and fast. Your site stays up and quick to load for your customers.

Good to know

  • It’s optional. You only need Maintain if you want me to put your website online. If you’d rather host the files yourself, you don’t need it.
  • Only for websites I build. Already have your own website? Traction Setup and Traction Monthly work on it.
  • If you cancel, your domain stays yours, in your name. I move it into an account you control and send you the website files, and you move them to a new host.
  • Review replies, reports and new local pages aren’t part of Maintain. Those come with Traction Monthly. Bigger changes, like new pages or a redesign, are quoted in writing first.
  • Billed monthly in advance on the 1st, by Interac e-Transfer, with no sales tax added at the moment. If you start partway through a month, your first bill covers only the days left.
  • Cancel any time with 30 days’ written notice.

Traction Setup

Help more people nearby find you on Google, trust what they see and choose you. It works on a website I build for you or on the one you already have.

What you get

  • Your Google listing, done properly. Your Google Business Profile is the box with your hours, map and reviews that shows up when people search for you. I prepare everything for it: your name as it appears on your sign, categories, a description, your services, hours (including holidays), phone, website and the area you serve. Then I link it to your website.
  • Your website, checked for Google. I make sure Google can read your site properly: your name, address and phone written out with tap-to-call, clear page titles, a page for each main service, and Google Search Console, Google’s free tool that shows how people find you. If I built your site, this is already done. If you have your own, I check it and give you a list of fixes.
  • A speed and phone check. I test how fast your site loads and how it works on a phone, using Google’s free testing tool. I fix what I can on a site I built, and list what to fix on one I didn’t. Any speed scores I share come from those tests.
  • Your details matched everywhere. I find where your business is listed online, such as Bing, Apple Maps, Facebook, Yelp and YellowPages.ca, and flag anything wrong or missing. You get a listing kit with everything ready to copy, and a sheet to keep track of each listing.
  • More reviews, with less effort. Your own review link, a “Leave a review” button for your website, a QR code you can print, and ready-made messages for asking customers.
  • A complete post-launch checklist. When your site goes live, I run through a full launch check: submitting your sitemap to Google Search Console, verifying tap-to-call phone buttons, testing mobile load speed, and confirming your local address and hours match across maps.
  • A plan for new pages. A list of 6 to 10 pages to add over time, based on what your customers search for.

How I get access

  • Invitations, never passwords. You add me through each platform’s own “invite a person” option, with the lowest role the work needs. I never ask for your passwords.
  • View-only first. Checks, reports and review reply drafts only need your Google listing, not your website.
  • Only the fixes you approve. I edit your website only for fixes you’ve said yes to, and you can remove my access at any time.
  • No access? No problem. I send you the fixes as a list, or quote you a new website.

Your part

  • Verify your Google listing and add me as a Manager.
  • Tell me which company your website is with, and whose name the account is in.
  • Send me real photos and confirm your business details.
  • Finish any checks your listings ask for (they often call or mail you a code), and ask your customers for reviews.

What I never do

  • Fake reviews, pay for them, reward customers for them, or only ask the customers I think are happy.
  • Bulk, paid or automated directory submissions.
  • Promise a set position on Google. Google decides its rankings.

Good to know

  • Not sure what you need? I’ll do a free one-page review of how your business shows up on Google. Ask for your free review.
  • Paid in full before work starts, by Interac e-Transfer, with no sales tax added at the moment. Same refund rule as Build.
  • Want help every month after setup? That’s Traction Monthly.

SEOOptional add-on

Traction Monthly

After Traction Setup, I keep things moving every month: reply drafts for your new reviews, about one new local page, a site check and a simple report.

What you get

  • A reply ready for every new review. I draft a reply to each one. You approve it and post it.
  • About one new local page a month. A page that answers a question your customers ask, written from facts you confirm. Nothing goes live until you approve it. If I can’t edit your site, I send you the page to publish yourself.
  • A monthly speed and phone check. I test how fast your site loads and how it works on a phone.
  • A simple monthly report. Your number of reviews, average rating, newest review, reviews still waiting for a reply, your site’s speed and how your listings look.
  • A listings check every three months. I re-check your listings across the web and tell you what needs fixing.

What I never do

  • Fake reviews, pay for them, reward customers for them, or only ask the customers I think are happy.
  • Post a reply you haven’t approved.

Good to know

  • For clients who have done Traction Setup first.
  • Billed monthly in advance on the 1st, by Interac e-Transfer, with no sales tax added at the moment. If you start partway through a month, your first bill covers only the days left.
  • Cancel any time with 30 days’ written notice.

AboutThe person doing the work

Hi, I’m Ryan

I’m a business student at Saint Mary’s University in Halifax, and I help small businesses across Canada get found online.

Ryan Martin, founder of Wavelength, on a street at sunset

Why I started

I’m studying for a business degree at Saint Mary’s University (SMU) in Halifax. I didn’t want to only read about running a business, so I started one. Wavelength turns what I’m learning in class into real work for real businesses.

It also helps me pay for that degree, so every project matters to me and I put real care into it.

Everywhere I looked I kept seeing the same thing: good businesses of every kind, from one-person startups to family firms that have been around for decades, with no website and hard to find on Google. When those owners looked for help, most agencies quoted prices no small business should have to pay.

I think every local business deserves to be found online without being gouged for it, so my prices are simple, fair and shown openly on this page.

Working with me

  • You deal with me directly. I do the work myself, so you talk to the person building your website, not a salesperson.
  • Transparency. I explain the details in basic terms, and we agree in writing on what’s included before any work begins.
  • Honest prices, honest promises. The prices are on this page, and I won’t promise you a spot on Google, because nobody can.
  • New, and happy to earn it. I’m just getting started, so I’d rather earn your trust with good work than with big claims.

My Sample Designs

Four sample websites I designed for made-up businesses, one for each kind of business I work with most. Open one and look around it on your phone or computer.

These are samples, not clients: the businesses, the town of Port Ellery, the details and the prices are invented, and the photos are free stock photos. A website for your business is built around your own name, details and photos.

FAQ

Something else on your mind? Ask me directly

What does a website build include and how much does it cost?

A Build is $349 CAD once. You get a custom design made around your business, pages made for phones first, tap-to-call and clear contact details, the basics Google needs, and two free rounds of changes. Build is the web design only: you get the finished website files, and once it's paid the website is yours.

How do you help my business show up on Google?

With Traction Setup ($199 CAD once), I set up your Google Business Profile, link it to your website, check your listings across the web and give you simple tools for asking customers for reviews. It works on a website I build or on the one you already have. Traction Monthly ($69 CAD a month) is only available after Traction Setup. Nobody can promise a spot on Google, and I don't.

What happens after my website goes live?

Before I hand over a Build, I test how fast it loads and how it works on a phone, and the files already include the basics Google needs, like page titles and a sitemap. With Traction Setup, I also check it once it's live: I submit your sitemap to Google Search Console, test the tap-to-call buttons and confirm your address and hours match across maps.

Do I need Maintain?

Only if you want me to put your website online. Maintain ($49 CAD a month) is hosting and upkeep for websites I build: your web address registered in your name, hosting, fixes and updates. It's optional. If you'd rather host the files yourself, you don't need it.

What's the difference between Maintain and Traction Monthly?

Maintain ($49 CAD a month) is hosting and upkeep for a website I build. Traction Monthly ($69 CAD a month) is Google Profile upkeep and review replies, available after Traction Setup, on any website. They do different jobs, and you only pay for the ones you choose.

Can I add Traction if I get a Build?

Yes. Traction Setup and Traction Monthly work on a website I build for you, just as they do on one you already have.

Who owns my website, domain and accounts?

You do. The website is yours once the Build is paid, your domain is registered in your name, and your Google accounts and listings stay yours. I work through invitations you send me, never your passwords, and you can remove my access at any time.

How do I pay, and can I cancel?

By Interac e-Transfer, with no sales tax added at the moment. One-time services are paid in full before work starts, with a full refund if you change your mind before I start. Monthly services are billed in advance on the 1st and can be cancelled with 30 days' written notice.
